Keyframe Blog – In Case You Missed it! February 2016
Greetings again from the Keyframe office!
We’re continuing our monthly blog focused on Festival Culture, Electronic Music (Underground / Psychedelic), Film, Sustainability, social media, and Tech.
We’d like to keep you up-to-date with Keyframe News and our partners’ projects; it is our hope that you enjoy these selections and contribute your ideas for future posts.
Let’s begin with a brand new mix from Johnny Blue, who will be performing in SF April 7th; his first USA appearance!!!
Hailing from Cyprus and with nearly 2 decades of DJ-ing experience, Johnny is one of the senior representatives on the launch, establishment and uprising of Cyprus’ psychedelic music scene. Influenced by several music genres (rock, dub, reggae, electronica, psy-trance, and chill out), Johnny’s unique eclectic style sends listeners to colourful and sensational journeys through sound.
As a founder of Psylent Harmony and co-founder of ChakradeliC project, he’s had the opportunity to not only bring to the island but play alongside artists such as Master Margherita, Seamoon, Argaman, Yestegan chaY, Kukan dUb Lagan, Dymons, Organic Shapes, and Flooting Grooves, to name a few.
In 2011 Johnny joined Mikelabella Records where he works as A/R Manager. His first compilation titled “Planet Blue” was released in December 2012, and the 2nd titled “Blue Moon” was released in April 2014. In early 2013, he became a Peak Records label DJ and is also Resident DJ at Digitally Imported Psychill (di.fm/psychill), with his monthly radio series “Psylent Harmony” broadcasted every third Sunday.
In addition to working as Stage Manager at BOOM Festival & Tree of Life Festival, Johnny Blue has had various international appearances in countries like the UK, Germany, Portugal, Croatia, Morocco, Turkey, Israel and Russia, among others, and presented DJ sets at parties and festivals like BOOM, Lost Theory, Antaris, Mo:Dem, Psy-Fi and more.

In the Film realm, we are happy to announce that Keyframe is working as Associate Producer for the music documentary “The American Jungle” being produced & Directed by Lesson Learned Productions.
The American Jungle demonstrates Drum & Bass / Jungle’s impact on the North American Electronic Dance Music (EDM) scene.
Jungle is a high-energy style of dance music that originated on the streets of London around 1992; the term originally used at the time of the genre’s inception. The term “Junglist” was associated with those committed to the lifestyle. “The American Jungle” submerges the viewer right into the deep end of the Drum and Bass lifestyle and scene with the people that support it. The Drum and Bass /Jungle genre is quite vast and has a diverse array of musical sounds from jazzy, melodic tones to heavy, dark beats. The music takes most of its roots and culture from the Electronic, Reggae, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, and Punk Rock scenes. This is a culture that thrives in almost every city in North America. You will see firsthand what it is like to be at some of the massive events featuring the top talents of Drum & Bass to the smaller, more intimate local scenes around North America. The crew will attend and document dozens of major events across the continent. The film will explore the past, present, and future, covering 20 years of Drum & Bass.
If you are interested in contributing to the development of this film, please let us know. We have a Sponsorship opportunity for a brand to receive Producer credit in the film and brand placement.
In Tech, we are surprised to hear about the new IBM-powered virtual reality MMO that scans your body to create an avatar! Click to learn more.
Keyframe’s partner The Permaculture Action Network just launched a beautiful crowdfunding campaign with allies Rising Appalachia:

The Permaculture Action Network is focusing on connecting large audiences with ecological education and social action to build the world we want to see with our own hands.
Rising Appalachia brings to the stage a collection of sounds, stories, and songs steeped in tradition and a devotion to world culture. Intertwining a deep reverence for folk music and a passion for justice, they have made it their life’s work to sing songs that speak to something ancient yet surging with relevance. Whether playing at Red Rocks or in rail cars, at Italian street fairs or to Bulgarian herbalists, this fiercely independent band has blazed a unique and colorful path across the globe.
